The Fireball of Truth: Gun Laws Kill Innocent Americans

It is way past time that someone pointed up the absolute truth about new gun legislation: the only thing they can do is enable the slaughter of innocent Americans. It is so very obvious, I'm forced to point this up myself. Any politician or pundit that can fog a mirror should be able to understand this.

Let's start with facts. Not media facts, but real facts from the F.B.I. Violence in the United States has been in an astonishingly steep decline for the last twenty years. Here it is: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/fbi-releases-2011-crime-statistics . For 2011, violent crime rate for the year was 386.3 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants a 4.5 percent decrease from the 2010 rate. Check it all out: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-1 .

In 1992, the violent crime rate in the U.S. was 757.7 per 100,000. Now, it is 386.6. In 1992, the Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter rate was 9.3 / 100k. In 1997, it was 9.5 / 100K. In 2011, the Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter rate was 4.7 / 100,000 inhabitants. Since 1992, violent crime and murder rates in the United States have been more than cut in half!

The Brady Bill and the so-called “Assault Weapons Ban” were both failures, having no measurable effect. Again, according to the F.B.I, murder rates continued to decline in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. More concealed carry, more citizens better equipped to resist and thwart crime and guess what? Less violent crime, less murder, less rape.

Let's talk about gun laws. Gun laws can only affect law-abiding citizens. In any well-populated area, you can get a gun for $50 or $60 within an hour or two. It is quicker and often cheaper to buy a stolen gun than to bother with a gun shop or a gun show. According to a study by the U.S. Department of Justice, 230,000 or so guns are stolen in the United States every year. Of course, no one knows. Law-abiding citizens are reticent to report stolen guns. They get sued, they get hauled into court, they get persecuted. The victim of a burglary gets taxed, penalized, and terrorized by government, not the thief.

Consider the concealed-carry permit holder. The CC permit holder has to pay for the right from his government. Those wishing to commit crimes with guns (or anything else) don't ask for permits, don't bother with background checks, and they have always carried firearms when and where they please. Does that surprise ANYONE? Really, anyone at all? There is no 2nd Amendment, according to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo. If I read the law correctly, you can own a ten-round magazine, but can only put 7 cartridges in it. If you put 8 rounds in a 10 round magazine, you have committed an illegal act. Who in their right mind thinks that anyone going to commit a violent crime is going to bother with such idiocy? The net effect couldn't be more painfully obvious: take away firepower used for self-defense, and soften up the innocent to make them easier prey for violent criminals. Does anyone think it could possibly do anything else?

American Citizens use firearms to prevent crime some 2,100,000 times a year. Often, the crimes stopped in progress go unreported. It isn't hard to understand why, for often the crime has been prevented so there is nothing of substance to report. Again, law-abiding citizens do not wish for publicity, they don't want citations, tax, and terror from their government . . . so of course they don't report these things.

The only people that acknowledge “Gun Free Zones” are law-abiding citizens. Violence-prone criminals are in no way constrained. Does this surprise anyone? Not only are they not deterred, they are encouraged. It isn't as much fun committing armed robbery when the citizen has the ability to defend himself.

"Whether causative or not, the consistent international pattern is that more guns equal less murder and other violent crime. Even if one is inclined to think that gun availability is an important factor, the available international data cannot be squared with the mantra that more guns equal more death and fewer guns equal less death. Rather, if firearms availability does matter, the data consistently show that the way it matters is that more guns equal less violent crime." (Volume 30, Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy)

"Firearms are entirely analogous. Although used in far fewer deaths - they are used to prevent about 75 crimes for each death. Firearms, like physicians, prevent far more deaths than they cause." - - Dr. Martin Fackler

Consider the implications of the fact that firearms save many more lives than they take. That means decreasing the number of firearms would actually cause an increase in violent crime and deaths from firearms. This inverse relationship between the number of firearms in the hands of the public and the amount of violent crime has, in fact, been proven beyond any reasonable doubt."(Gary Kleck, "Point Blank: Guns and Violence in America," Hawthorne, N.Y., Aldine de Gruyter Publisher, 1991)

"Potential victims use guns more than two million times a year to stop violent crimes; 98% of the time simply brandishing a gun is sufficient to stop an attack. Crimes are stopped with guns about five times as frequently as crimes are committed with guns." --John R. Lott, Jr. , John M. Olin Law and Economics Fellow School of Law, University of Chicago.

More gun laws quite literally kill innocent Americans, the only Americans that pay any attention to them. All they can do and all they have done is imperil the regular citizen, particularly women, seniors, and minorities . . . while empowering the violence prone criminal. Who in their right mind could think differently? History has proved it, again and again. Thanks to the ability of the American Citizen to personally resist and thwart crime, that is exactly what happens 2,100,000 times every year in the United States . . . and violent crime and murder rates are in an unprecedented, very steep decline as a direct result.
