Savage 10ML-II Accuracy Loads
Every Savage 10ML-II SS / Laminated is capable of 1-1/2 MOA 100 yard accuracy, out of the box, assuming excellent range conditions, and a steady hand. Accuracy is something that most of us seek, but all guns being individuals-the onus is on us to listen to our individual gun, and find the load that it likes the best. That's our job.
This listing of Savage 10ML-II loads will be a continual work in progress. The standard is a simple, yet very high one: ¾ MOA repeatable (or better) 5 shot groups @ 100 yards. If I have not personally shot it, it won't be listed here by me. However, submitted loads properly authenticated, will also be added as time goes on. Effort will be made to give all specific load details. Powder charges are by actual weight.
Vihtavouri N120, 60 grains. Winchester 209 primer. RW .033" ventliner. Barnes "Original" .458 45-70 300 gr. semi-spitzer bullet, MMP Orange .458 / .50 sabot. 2290 fps MV.
Vihtavouri N120, 60 grains. Winchester 209 primer. RW .033" ventliner. Barnes "MZ-Expander" .451 300 gr. bullet, supplied sabot (MMP HPH-12). 2290 fps MV.
Accurate Arms 5744, 45 grains. Winchester 209 primer. RW .033" ventliner. Barnes "MZ-Expander" .451 300 gr. bullet, supplied sabot (MMP HPH-12). 2080 fps MV.
Accurate Arms 5744, 44 grains. Winchester 209 primer. RW .033" ventliner. Hornady XTP .452 300 gr. bullet, MMP short black sabot. 2055 fps MV.
Vihtavouri N110, 42 grains, Winchester 209 primer. RW .033" ventliner. Hornady XTP .452 250 gr. bullet, MMP short black sabot. 2290 fps MV.
Note: Vihtavouri N110 has been observed to perform best with 250 gr. class bullets. Vihtavouri N120 performs best with 300 gr. bullets. Accurate Arms 5744 has performed superbly with either 250 or 300 gr. bullets. Federal 209A primers have proven to be equally as accurate at Winchester 209 primers, and also give you a 37 fps average velocity increase contingent on load. Some breechplug primer pockets are a little tight for the Federals; a touch up with a #21 drill bit makes your breechplug "Federal compatible," if it is not already. I use Federal 209A primers as often as possible, though Winchester 209s may fit your breechplug better due to their smaller OD.
